Data protection on the move

Towards the sun, finally vacations, the well-deserved vacation and let the soul dangle completely carefree.

The dog is taken care of, the flowers too, and the mail is dropped off at the friendly lady next door. But what about your own data? You already enter it when you make your booking and it will be requested several times along the way. Data protection while traveling is important and should also be taken into account during the most beautiful time of the year.

What personal data is used by the organizer?

Tour operators require various information about you and other travelers when booking a trip. When filling out the booking documents, data such as name, address, date of birth, bank account details, address, telephone number, nationality and other information is usually entered. This information is used as part of the tour operator's activities and the associated business relationship, i.e. it is passed on to hotels, travel agencies or airlines, for example.

The purpose must be clearly defined

The processing of personal data may be, for example, the performance of the contract, the implementation of precautionary measures pursuant to Art. 6 1 lit. b DSGVO, the exercise of legitimate interests or the fulfillment of legal obligations (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c DSGVO).

IMPORTANT: Of course, the express consent of the travelers is also a prerequisite for the use of personal data.

Is the traveler obliged to provide his data?

No one has to disclose their data. However, booking a package tour or city trip is difficult if the tour operator does not receive any of the above data. So if you are planning a trip and don't want to spend the night in a clearing in the nearby city park, you might want to get used to the fact that some information about yourself is needed for the purpose of a relaxing vacation.

We will be happy to provide you with comprehensive advice on these and other topics.
